MOTOR NOISE DIAGNOSTIC
GUIDE-LINE

The following is the trouble shooting guide for NOISE associated with ceiling fan operation. The complaint of motor noise is seldom confirmed as being a motor problem. More often than not, the noise stems from some other source. Typically the problem can be resolved by using this guide to locate the source of the complaint:

SOUND / NOISE	CAUSE / PROBLEM	ACTION / SOLUTION
Buzz or vibration.	Light bulbs 75 and 100 watts are used.	Replace with lower wattage bulbs.
Cracking noise.	Canopy loose .	Re-tighten the bracket and canopy.
Thumping or Grinding.	Dropped flywheel.	Re-Position flywheel and tighten set screw.
Intermittent Rattle or clicking.	Wire nuts or wires vibrating inside the switch housing.	Re-Position or cover with tape.
Ticking.	Loose blades and blade holder assembly.	Re-tighten screws. Install felt washers.
60 cycle hum vibration.	3-Speed fans using STACK MOTOR , use of the wrong wall control.	Use Casablanca W-4, W-8 or other Casablanca Wall controls for 3 speed fans.
Grinding.	Motor is being run without fan blades.	Install fan blades.
Rattling vibration.	Loose components of fan or light kit.	Check and re-tighten.
Rattling vibration.	Loose glass globe(s)	Re-tighten thumb screws.
